Auspoll people are lateral thinkers and skilled problem-solvers whose wide view of the world comes from years of achievement in many of the sectors they now research and analyse. The sum of these individual parts is a team whose professional instincts draw deeply on life experiences to understand people – the client and the target audience – and then provide superior research and strategic advice.

John is one of Australia's most respected and successful political pollsters. As one of Auspoll's founding Directors, he helped build the company into a high-quality, independent research organisation dedicated to supporting communications strategies for government, political, industrial, environmental and corporate clients.
John was the pollster for the Victorian branch of the Labor Party for the enormously successful Steve Bracks campaigns in 1999, 2002 and 2006. He has also worked on election campaigns in other states and on the ACTU's high-profile Your Rights @ Work campaign that helped put workplace fairness on the agenda in the 2007 federal election. He believes that the determining factor in the success or failure of a communications campaign is its ability to connect with the underlying values of the target audience. His passion is finding ways to win public support for complex ideas by articulating shared values with brevity and simplicity.
John also understands campaigns. He was elected to Mornington Council at the age of 18, where he served for seven years including a term as Shire President. In 1998 he was drafted as the Labor candidate for the federal seat of Flinders, then held by Peter Reith. During the campaign, the historic waterfront dispute blew up, giving John a high profile within the ALP.
John has a Graduate Certificate in Social Statistics (Swinburne University) and is a member of the Australian Market and Social Research Society.
